Romelu Lukaku has more than repaid Antonio Conte’s faith in him at Inter, according to an Italian media report today.

As per Gazzetta dello Sport’s online edition, Conte was absolutely adamant upon his appointment as the Nerazzurri’s head coach in 2019 that Lukaku had to be their big summer signing.

Conte was very pushy and insistent on the matter, with the report revealing it risked creating a crisis situation with the club’s management such was his eagerness to get the Belgian.

But he has since been vindicated for his stance, with Lukaku now worth at least €10 million more than the €80 million Inter paid to sign him.

The 27-year-old, who is under contract with the club until 2024, has made 31 appearances across all competitions to date, in which he has scored 24 goals and provided six assists.

He will look to add to his tally for the Nerazzurri tomorrow when Conte’s side visit Parma on matchday 25 of Serie A.

Lukaku is one booking away from suspension but Conte made it very clear today that he will not rest his star striker at the Stadio Ennio Tardini.
