Christian Eriksen’s second coming at Inter should not be seen as a surprise, at least according to the Nerazzurri’s former defender Thomas Helveg.
Eriksen joined Inter in the 2019-20 January transfer window but really struggled to impose himself for a very long time, which led to strong rumours that he would be loaned back to the Premier League in January.
But the 29-year-old remained and has really turned things around for himself, with a report in yesterday’s media arguing Eriksen had become ‘the prince’ of Antonio Conte’s midfield.
“I say it was only a matter of time to see the real Christian,” former Denmark international Helveg, who more famously played for AC Milan before joining Inter, told Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview for Wednesday’s print edition.
“In Denmark they are all happy.
“The European Championships are coming up and Eriksen is our star.
“He has won over Conte and now he will play at the European Championships as a protagonist, I never had any doubts that he could become great at Inter.”
Eriksen, who is contracted to Inter until the summer of 2024, has made 21 appearances across all competitions this season, scoring his only goal of the campaign against AC Milan in January.
Inter’s former striker David Suazo believes Eriksen is the perfect example of how Conte’s players all know what to do on the pitch now.
