Alexis Sanchez’s performance at Parma last night shows Inter have benefitted from not swapping him for Edin Dzeko in January, according to an Italian media report today.

Inter held talks with Roma over a loan swap involving the two players in the January transfer window but a deal never came to fruition in the end.

La Repubblica’s print edition pointed out that in the time since, Sanchez has scored three goals while Dzeko has not scored at all and when the Chilean has played, Sanchez has been fundamental in Inter’s attacking play.

Even before his double in the 2-1 win at Parma last night, Sanchez ranked second only behind Achraf Hakimi in terms of big chances created in the league, despite having played only just over 800 minutes.

This season the 32-year-old, who is under contract with the Nerazzurri until the end of the 2022-23 season, has made 26 appearances across all competitions, in which he has scored five goals and provided six assists for his teammates.
