Antonio Conte believes Inter’s win at Parma showed the Nerazzurri are a more resilient team than they used to be.
The Nerazzurri did not play as well as they have done in recent weeks but still managed to pick up the all-important three points, with Alexis Sanchez’s double securing a 2-1 victory.
They have now moved six points clear of AC Milan at the top of the Serie A standings with 13 games to spare.
“We didn’t manage to score the third goal but that’s OK,” Conte told Inter’s official club broadcaster Inter TV after the game.
“Parma started to come into the game and we had to grit our teeth, credit must be given to the guys who have increased their resilience.
“When you’re with me, this becomes normal.”
Conte also congratulated the team, especially Sanchez, who grabbed both of Inter’s goals at the Stadio Ennio Tardini after coming into the starting line-up in place of Lautaro Martinez.
“Congratulations to the boys because they are the main architects of this win,” Conte said.
“My comments about Sanchez yesterday were prophetic, I said we were seeing a Sanchez that we hadn’t had at Inter up until now.
“Congratulations to him and to us for the patience we had.
“He can help us, he did well today.
“Lautaro picked up a back problem against Genoa and Alexis gave a great response today.
“I am happy because our fortunes involve everyone, they are all important.
“Last match Matteo Darmian gave us a great performance, today it was Alexis and I am very happy.”
The former Chelsea boss also touched upon Parma and why he grabbed Achraf Hakimi in the dying embers of the game.
“Congratulations to Parma, they have a precise identity and strong players.
“Their position in the standings is surprising, they can save themselves and they always made us suffer.”
“Grabbing Hakimi? There was a minute left and he was good at continuing to press getting a foul.
“I told him ‘good, good’, because in certain moments you have to grit your teeth and defend the result that was deserved today.
“We gave excellent answers and now a key match against Atalanta awaits us and we want to be ready.”
In conclusion he looked ahead to the match with Atalanta which is due to take place on Monday night.
“It will be a fascinating and tough challenge, they are a team that’s doing very well and have the right chemistry.
“They are doing very well and last year they did the same in the Champions League, even if they finished behind us in the league.
“They are a rival for the league title.
“They are part of the Scudetto race and Champions League qualification race, Monday will be a challenging match.”
