Inter coach Antonio Conte has surpassed former Nerazzurri tactician Jose Mourinho as having the best points per game record of any coach in the club’s history with over 50 matches.

The former Juventus coach has led Inter to top spot in Serie A this season as they look to secure a first Scudetto since Mourinho won the treble in 2010, and his leadership has drawn comparisons with the Portuguese.

As reported in today’s newspaper edition of Libero, Conte has moved ahead of Mourinho in the list of coaches who have led teams in more than 50 Serie A matches. Over the 62 games Conte has presided over, Inter have won 41 and lost only six. Meanwhile, his points per game average across spells with Atalanta, Juventus and Inter over six years stands at 2.24.

In comparison, current Tottenham Hotspur coach Mourinho won 49 of his 76 league matches at the helm of Inter and lost nine, with an average of 2.18.

Libero suggested that Conte’s success has come from his ability to change the mentality of the current Inter squad and to turn them into a competitive team. Mourinho, meanwhile benefitted from inheriting a team that had previously won three consecutive league titles from 2006 to 2008.
