Former Inter forward Sandro Mazzola had warned that it is too early to proclaim Antonio Conte’s side as Serie A champions this season.

The Nerazzurri are six points clear at the top of the Serie A table as they seek a first Scudetto since 2010, and face Atalanta on Monday evening looking to extend their unbeaten run to 10 matches.

However, Mazzola, who won four league titles with Inter between 1963 and 1971, insisted that with 13 matches remaining it was premature to declare his former side as winners this term.

“Inter have not won the Scudetto yet,” Mazzola claimed in an interview with Italian radio statio Radio Kiss Kiss earlier today. “As the great Helenio Herrera said, it’s not over until the last game, so I would urge caution.

“We have to wait, I don’t like talking before. Obviously I’m superstitious, but don’t talk to me about the Scudetto, I haven’t heard this word!”

With the race to secure a top four place and Champions League qualification heating up, the former Italy international predicted how he expected the top of the table to look come the end of the season.

“I would say Inter, Milan, Juventus and Atalanta will make up the top four. I really like the Bergamo team a lot,” Mazzola concluded.

Mazzola spent his entire career with Inter and scored 161 goals in 568 appearances between 1961 and 1977. In addition to the four Serie A titles, he also won the European Cup twice with the Nerazzurri.
