Inter midfielder Christian Eriksen has revealed that the first ever football shirt he owned bore the name of former Nerazzurri star Roberto Baggio.

The Denmark international has played a key part of Inter’s recent form as Antonio Conte’s side sit six points clear at the top of the Serie A table, whilst he scored a last minute winner against AC Milan in the Coppa Italia Quarter-Finals in January.

“My idol as a child was always Michael Laudrup,” Eriksen told Inter’s official matchday programme ahead of Monday’s Serie A clash against Atalanta, as per FCInterNews.it.

“In Denmark everyone wants to be like him as he was the best Danish player ever. He is a source of inspiration.

“My dad was a big fan of Roberto Baggio. As soon as he had the chance, he bought me one of his shirts. So the first shirt I ever had was that of the Divino Codino.”

Forward Baggio spent two seasons at Inter from 1998 to 2000, scoring 17 goals in 59 appearances for the Nerazzurri.

Eriken then turned his attention to his impact in the Derby della Madonnina, with a stunning freekick deep into stoppage time sealing a 2-1 victory in a heated match against Milan at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.

“Scoring always has a special and unique feeling. Doing it in the derby was wonderful, that freekick was perfect for me. It was an exceptional moment,” the 29-year-old concluded.

Eriken joined Inter from Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur in January 2020 and has gone on to score five goals in 48 appearances for the Nerazzurri.

The former Ajax midfielder has started each of Inter’s last six matches in all competitions, with his most recent appearance coming in Thursday’s 2-1 win over Parma in Serie A.
