A draw for Inter in tonight’s match versus Atalanta would not be the worst result for the league leaders, an Italian media report has argued today.

Corriere dello Sport’s print edition pointed out that Inter have won just one of their last six meetings with Atalanta, drawing four and losing the other one.

A point tonight at San Siro would still keep Antonio Conte’s side sitting pretty at the top of the Serie A standings.

Inter could move six points clear of second-placed AC Milan with a win but a draw would still see them go four points clear at the top with 12 games to go, and it must not be forgotten either that Inter hold the head-to-head advantage over their city rivals too.

While the recent precedents for Inter against Atalanta are not great, the report points out that Inter coach Antonio Conte could take advantage of Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini’s attacking style of play and hit them on the counter.
