Inter club captain Samir Handanovic has praised the team for the way they suffered as they edged past Atalanta 1-0 on Monday night.

Centre back Milan Skriniar fired Inter infront during the second half and the Nerazzurri were able to hold on and pick up an all important three points in their Serie A title chase.

“We knew it would be difficult and it was,” he told Inter’s official club broadcaster Inter TV following the full time whistle at San Siro.

“Atalanta are a physical and strong team and it is not easy to play against them, but we did well to suffer and not to give so much to them and at times highlight we were good and lucky.”

Handanovic, who has been an ever-present feature in Antonio Conte’s side this term was then asked if it feels good to have stopped one of the leagues best attacks.

“Yes, but not only that.

“Against Atalanta it is difficult to play, we know it because we have been playing in this way for three years, they have more or less the same system, the matches have always ended with few goals and they are always tough matches.

“You also need to be able to win games like this.

“The growth path also includes games like this and full weeks.”

The veteran Slovenian shot-stopper, who joined Inter back in the Summer of 2012 from Udinese, was asked whether he is already thinking of Inter’s next match which comes away to Torino this coming Sunday afternoon.

“We still have a little more of today to enjoy and you are already thinking about the next game.

“Victories last five minutes, it is the defeats that give you sleepless night and you think about it a lot for several nights.”

Inter are now six points clear at the top of the Serie A standings with 12 games left of the season.
