Massimo Moratti is confident Inter have what it takes to bring home the Serie A title.
The Nerazzurri dug out a crucial 1-0 win at home to Atalanta last night to re-establish their six-point lead over AC Milan at the top of the table.
Moratti joined Radio 24 on ‘Tutti Convocati’ today to celebrate Inter’s 113th birthday, but first touched upon the club’s Scudetto prospects.
“Winning last month’s Milan derby was decisive,” Inter’s former owner and president argued.
“AC Milan are doing very well but Inter’s advantage in the table puts them in a secure position.
“Inter have the intelligence and the character to bring home the Scudetto, said with all the necessary superstition.”
Moratti also hailed Antonio Conte for the job he has done this season, especially in the light of Inter’s well-documented corporate problems.
Suning remain linked with various outside groups as they consider selling the club due to liquidity issues.
“Conte has been left fairly isolated by the club who have a few problems, he’s doing exceptional things,” Moratti added.
“He’s performing a role that goes beyond just the coach now, he has all merits.
“You shouldn’t look at the past but to the present.”
Moratti also admitted he had underestimated the impact Romelu Lukaku would have at Inter, following the Belgian’s club-record transfer from Manchester United in the summer of 2019.
“I started with the idea that he wasn’t that great honestly,” he revealed.
“But he’s an intelligent guy.
“Lukaku has made huge improvements, he’s a reference points now and an incredible player.”
Inter and their star striker will go in search of three more crucial points in their Scudetto bid when they visit Torino on Sunday.
