The uncertainty regarding Inter’s current corporate situation may have played a role in bringing the team closer together, according to Nerazzurri legend Beppe Bergomi.

Things are going very well on the pitch for Antonio Conte’s side as of late but there is great uncertainty off it, with it seeming almost inevitable that the club will be sold by current owners Suning in the not-so-distant future.

Inter beat Atalanta 1-0 last night and returned to being six points clear of the Serie A standings, and in an interview with Radio Nerazzurra this morning, ex-club captain Bergomi had his say on the off-field issues and the game itself among other things.

“The future is uncertain and this is undeniable, but perhaps this has also compacted the group more,” the 1982 World Cup winner stated.

“There is a united group and Conte also thanks those who play little.

“Crisis management is important and they are doing it very well.

“Also yesterday three very important points arrived, Inter had to play that kind of game to win.

“Against Atalanta you can use your weapons, but you can also suffer.

“I really liked Lautaro Martinez’s performance, less so that of Arturo Vidal.

“I saw an Inter side that played with heart and determination.”

Bergomi then went on to reveal what he thinks was the turning point for Inter’s season.

“From the game at Sassuolo (on November 28) onwards, I see a turning point.

“There are no more negative attitudes like Marcelo Brozovic who waves his arms or Nicolo Barella who gets booked.

“You don’t see certain things anymore.

“This team has grown defensively and recognises its limits.

“The three defenders are very strong but they don’t have to cope with covering large open spaces anymore.”

Bergomi, who spent the entirety of his career with the club, also touched upon the revitalised Christian Eriksen.

“I see a boy who is smiling now.

“The best things he is doing come in the defensive phase.

“He has settled into the side now.

“In attack, we will see him from here on out.

“We could see him score a goal from outside the box or provide an assist and he will complete his entry into this team.

“It took some time but now he is a starter.”

In conclusion, Bergomi spoke on Inter coach Antonio Conte and whether the team can still be improved.

“Inter are in the lead with merit and for me Conte is the added value in this team.

“I continue to think that the squad is no better than the others and that at a certain moment you could end up going into difficulty.

“This would maybe be the case for other coaches who would make a mistake but Conte always manages to keep everyone motivated.

“Inter are on the right path, even if it s a long one.

” It is clear that Inter are favourites but they must not make mistakes in certain matches.

“Can the team still be improved? It is a team that can be improved, even in terms of having a certain attitude.

“When you go and play in Europe, what you do in the league is not enough.

“The goal must be to improve.

“There is a structure that works and must work regardless of the coach, who is giving continuity.

“Few of Inter’s players are over 30 years old and to give continuity, you need young, dynamic players with structure.

“You need European players who give you a future together with experienced people.

“With four qualification places for the Champions League available you always have to get there but there is everything to give continuity to the project, people like Alessandro Bastoni, Nicolo Barella, Lautaro Martinez and Achraf Hakimi.”
