Antonio Conte’s Inter possesses the DNA of many historic Inter sides from years gone by, an Italian media report has argued today.

As per Gazzetta dello Sport’s print edition, Inter’s most successful teams have always been build on a strong defensive structure.

The Nerazzurri’s hard-fought win over Atalanta on Monday led this report to suggest Conte’s side was similar to Jose Mourinho’s Inter, in terms of structure and mentality.

There are also similarities that can be drawn with the teams of Helenio Herrera and Giovanni Trapattoni, who also prioritised organisation and solidity before looking to pounce on the counterattack.

One way in which Conte’s team differs from its predecessors is that Inter now build out from the back, an idea the Milan-based publication believe would have sent shivers down previous Nerazzurri coaches’ spines.

Conte has his Inter sitting at the top of the Serie A standings after 26 games played this season and they currently boast a six point gap over second placed AC Milan with 12 games to spare this season.
