Romelu Lukaku and Zlatan Ibrahimovic will face no serious punishment for their bust-up in January’s Milan derby, according to a leading Italian broadcaster.
The former Manchester United teammates squared up to one another and exchanged bitter insults during Inter’s victory over AC Milan in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals.
Sky Sport Italia today revealed the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) had finally ended their investigation into the pair’s spat, finding them both guilty of ‘unsportsmanlike behaviour’ but nothing more.
Both players will be able to enter into a plea bargain to receive a reduced sentence, which should be nothing more than a fine.
Ibrahimovic was cleared of all allegations he had used a racial insult towards Lukaku, after inviting the Inter striker to ‘do his voodoo s***’ in reference to a story from Lukaku’s time at Everton.
The FIGC also concluded Inter and AC Milan both had ‘objective responsibility’ for what happened at San Siro, but neither club will face a specific punishment.
