Milan Skriniar has gone from possibly being sold to becoming a perfect player in Inter’s three-man defence, an Italian media report has pointed out today.

Corriere dello Sport’s print edition recall that last summer Skriniar was regarded as expendable after a difficult season in which he had difficulty in adapting to Inter coach Antonio Conte’s system, and even lost his place in the team at the end of the season.

During the early part of this season, Skriniar then found himself behind Danilo D’Ambrosio and also missed six matches due to testing positive for COVID-19.

Since his return to the pitch, the Slovakian national team player has grown and has played a key role in Inter’s recent form and watertight defence, which has conceded just twice in the past nine Serie A games and kept seven clean sheets.

Skriniar was particularly impressive in the win over Atalanta on Monday night with him marking Duvan Zapata well and even scoring Inter’s goal.

This season the 26-year-old has made 29 appearances across all competitions to date, in which he has scored three goals.
