Inter paid tribute to one of their greatest players of all time on Wednesday by recalling a special anniversary.

Lothar Matthaus made 153 appearances for the Nerazzurri during a four-year spell at the club, scoring 53 goals and helping Giovanni Trapattoni’s side to the Serie A title in 1989.

In 1990, he received FIFA’s prestigious Ballon d’Or award but had to wait until March 10 the following year to pick up the prize at San Siro.

Inter beat Juventus 2-0 on that day, with Matthaus scoring the opening goal, as recalled with a video on the Nerazzurri’s Twitter profile.
