Inter have received a boost in their bid to sign Georginio Wijnaldum from Liverpool this summer, if reports in the Spanish media are to be believed.

As per Catalan publication Sport, Barcelona have withdrawn their interest for the 30-year-old midfielder despite previously identifying him as a transfer priority.

The emergence of academy talent Ilaix Moriba has led to the La Liga giants prioritising other positions for their summer transfer campaign, because signing Wijnaldum could disrupt the 18-year-old’s progress.

However, now that Wijnaldum is aware that the possibility of a move to Barcelona has faded he is said to be prioritising a contract extension with Liverpool, with whom he is only under contract until the end of this season.

The Dutch international has also been strongly linked with Inter as of late in various media reports but based on this report, it would seem as if he wishes to continue his career in the Premier League, where he has played for since 2016.

This season he has played more than anyone else for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool having made 39 appearances, in which he has scored three goals.
