Romelu Lukaku can’t be beaten in a physical duel so you have to find other ways to mark him, according to former Inter and Torino defender Fabio Galante.
The Belgian has been in fine form for the Nerazzurri this season, having scored 24 goals to help Antonio Conte’s side open up a six-point lead at the top of Serie A.
Ahead of Inter’s trip to the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino on Sunday, Galante was asked how he would try to mark Lukaku if he was facing him now.
“I would definitely not mark him closely,” Galante explained in an interview for Friday’s print edition of Tuttosport.
“I would give him a metre or so or try and anticipate him.
“Torino’s defenders are all ell experienced and know how to play against great forwards.
“At Inter you also have Lautaro Martinez, Christian Eriksen and Nicolo Barella.
“All the defenders will have a tough task on Sunday.”
Galante faced Conte on numerous occasions during his playing days and was asked for his thoughts on the current Inter boss.
“He always gets 100% out of his players,” Galante argued.
“Conte and Torino coach Davide Nicola were two players who always left the pitch with their shirt covered in sweat, sometimes even ripped.”
Andrea Belotti is expected to start from the bench on Sunday after only recovering from COVID-19 yesterday.
Asked about Il Gallo’s importance to Torino, Galante said: “Belotti’s absence for Torino is like what it would be for Inter without Lukaku, or for Roma without Edin Dzeko.”
In conclusion, he was asked for a prediction for the game at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino this weekend.
“I really don’t know,” Galante admitted.
“Given the importance of the match, I would want to give three points to both of them.
“I hope that in the end Inter will win the Scudetto and Toro will secure Serie A survival.”
The last time the two sides met earlier on this season, Inter ran out 4-2 winners at San Siro after a second-half comeback.
Conte’s side currently have a 42-point advantage over Sunday’s opponents, who sit in 18th place in the standings.
