Alessandro Bastoni has warned his Inter teammates not to get carried away or they risk throwing away the Serie A title.

The Nerazzurri sit six points clear of second-placed AC Milan and also have the head-to-head advantage over the Rossoneri, with 12 games to spare in the 2020-21 season.

Most outsiders are tipping Antonio Conte’s side to win the club’s first league title in 11 years, but Bastoni insists there is a very different atmosphere inside the Inter dressing room.

In an interview with La Repubblica for Friday’s print edition, the 21-year-old revealed: “It is forbidden to talk about the Scudetto at Inter.

“There is still a long way to go and in football it takes nothing to from everything being all good and beautiful to rubbish.”

Bastoni then reflected on Inter’s UEFA Champions League elimination at the group stage and what it had meant for the Nerazzurri’s campaign.

Many have suggested Conte’s side are helped in the title race by only having one game per week, but there is also the fact that the Inter boss tweaked his team’s tactical approach after losing to Real Madrid in November.

“It was a blow which changed our season,” Bastoni explained.

“After losing to Real Madrid, we had a discussion to understand where the mistakes were.

“There the turning point began, it gave us a sense of heightened responsibility, with the determination that Conte transmitted to us.

“Our form in the league is about mentality and tactics.

“We were conceding too much beforehand, but after we dropped the defensive line we managed to win games that previously eluded us and we know that we can trust each other.

“Are Juventus the toughest rival? They always have been.

“Their Champions League elimination will be an extra motivation for them.

“The goal for us remains the same and that is to finish in front of them.”

The 21-year-old then went on to discuss Inter coach Antonio Conte, who came close to leaving the club at the end of last season.

“We started a long-term project with him.

“I confess it was a surprise that he put his faith in me so soon.

“I hope he will stay for a long time.”

Bastoni then went on to share the goals that he hopes to achieve with Inter, including perhaps becoming club captain.

“‘I am really happy here.

“It’s my second home and there will be no problems extending the contract.

“Maybe I can then crown another dream and be captain of my favourite team.”

In conclusion the former Atalanta player addressed the off-field situation at the club amid ongoing reports that the club could be sold by current owners Suning.

“It has never been a problem, we are satisfied with the results of the field,” Bastoni assured.

“I think it is a good message for those who believe that we play for money.

“It is passion and the desire to win which prevail over everything.

“Otherwise we would have to change jobs.”
