Nicolas Burdisso is backing Inter to end Juventus’ nine-year dominance in Italy and bring home the Serie A title.

The Nerazzurri currently sit at the top of the Serie A table after 26 games played with a six-point lead over AC Milan in second.

Antonio Conte’s side will seek an eighth straight league win on Sunday at Torino, another of Burdisso’s former clubs.

“This is a terrible match for Torino who are in desperate need of points,” the former defender explained in an interview for Friday’s print edition of Corriere dello Sport.

“There is nothing worse than being up against an Inter team who will face a meeting with destiny in every match now.

“I hope that Torino can avoid relegation and at the same time Inter win the Scudetto.”

Burdisso was asked if he thinks there is any team capable of stopping Inter, who have pulled clear at the top of the table in recent weeks.

“AC Milan, to begin with,” the Argentine responded.

“With the table how it is, you cannot rule out a team like this in your predictions.”

In conclusion Burdisso admitted that while his Inter side and the modern-day Inter are different, there is a similarity and he went on to name Inter as title favourites.

“My Inter and the current one are very different.

“However I see a similarity.

“I arrived at the beginning of a path set by Roberto Mancini which was later completed by Jose Mourinho with the winning of the treble.

“I hope that this Inter will be able to open up a cycle, there are all the conditions to allow this to happen.

“Even if things went badly for Inter in the UEFA Champions League, I already considered them to be the strongest team in the league.

“Without playing in Europe, Inter are obviously the favourites.

“Let’s face it, it is better for Italian football if someone interrupts the dominance of Juventus.”
