Lautaro Martinez is edging ever closer to renewing his contract at Inter, but negotiations with the striker’s representatives have been delayed by cases of COVID-19 amongst directors at the club.

The Argentina international has two years remaining on the deal he signed upon joining Inter from Racing Club in 2018 and the Nerazzurri are keen to extend his deal.

As reported in today’s newspaper edition of Tuttosport, Martinez’s agent Beto Yaque has arrived in Milan to finalise an extension to his contract until 2024, with the striker’s salary set to increase from €2.5 million per season to €4.5m.

Crucially for Inter, there will be no minimum release clause in Martinez’s new deal, as the Nerazzurri look to ward off interest from the likes of Barcelona.

However, the talks have been delayed after Inter directors, including Beppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio, contracted COVID-19, forcing interactions to be conducted via phone and all face-to-face meetings cancelled.

Martinez has made 120 appearances for Inter across three seasons, scoring 45 goals and helping the Nerazzurri move six points clear at the top of Serie A.
