Inter have opened up negotiations with midfielder Nicolo Barella over a new contract, whilst the Italian international will also be offered the captaincy.
Barella joined Inter on an initial season-long loan in 2019 before making the move permanent for €45 million last summer, and has enjoyed a fine campaign as the Nerazzurri sit top of the Serie A table.
As reported in today’s newspaper edition of Corriere della Sera, Inter are keen to reward Barella whilst also tying him down to the club for longer and will look to extend his contract, currently set to expire in 2024.
The 24-year-old will see his salary increase from €2.5 million to €4.5m, whilst Inter consider him the future of the club and will offer him the captain’s armband once incumbent Samir Handanovic leaves.
Barella has made 36 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring three goals. The Sardinian made his international debut for Italy in 2018 and has scored four goals in 18 games for the Azzurri.
