Former Inter forward Ivan Zamorano insists that he still follows the club and is hopeful that Antonio Conte’s side will go on to lift the Scudetto this season.

The Chilean joined Inter from Real Madrid in 1996 and spent five seasons at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, scoring 37 goals in 148 appearances and winning the UEFA Cup in 1998.

In an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Zamorano admitted that he followed the Nerazzurri’s results whilst was in touch with compatriots Alexis Sanchez and Arturo Vidal, with the pair playing a role in Inter opening up a six point gap at the top of Serie A.

“I can only say that I hope Inter will win the Scudetto, nothing more. There is no certainty and if we repeat it then it will be a good year,” the 54-year-old claimed.

“Obviously I have always followed Inter 100% and it is in my heart. For some time now I have followed them even more closely because of the presence of Vidal and Sanchez. I often hear from both, they are happy and energised for the final push of the season.

“It is a pity about Arturo’s injury, and he will not miss his chance to contribute as a great player when he recovers.”

Zamorano turned his attention to coach Antonio Conte and insisted his high-profile past with Juventus had no bearing on his ability to lead Inter.

“If he is Inter or not, it shouldn’t matter. I don’t want a coach who is just a fan, I want a professional who is able to make the most of his squad.

“How many coaches in the past have made history at one club and formed an emotional bond, then moved on and done the same elsewhere? Antonio is a worker and won a lot at Juventus to become a symbol of them, but I don’t care. His only mission now is to bring the Scudetto back,” the Chilean concluded.

Inter look to continue their push for the Serie A title when they visit relegation-threatened Torino later today.
