Former Inter defender Riccardo Ferri is anticipating a difficult encounter against Torino in Serie A this afternoon but is confident the Nerazzurri can get a positive result.

Antonio Conte’s side travel to the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino to take on the struggling Granata, hoping to extend their six point lead at the top of the Serie A table.

“It will be tough against Torino but Inter are mature. I have always had great affection for Toro and I hope they can recover soon. They started with different ambitions but have the quality to get out [of a relegation battle],” Ferri claimed in an interview published in today’s newspaper edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Inter can turn the ordinary into the extraordinary and in [Romelu] Lukaku and Lautaro [Martinez] they have a phenomenal attacking pair.”

Ferri made 290 appearances for Inter between 1981 and 1994, whilst older brother Giacomo enjoyed a lengthy career with Torino between 1981 and 1989. Ferri insisted there was no bitterness between the siblings when they faced each other however.

“Honestly, there was never any rivalry between us when we took to the pitch against each other. Perhaps because our teams’ goals were never the same,” the 57-year-old claimed.

After coming through the academy at Inter, Ferri went on to lift the Serie A title and the Coppa Italia, whilst also helping the Nerazzurri to the UEFA Cup twice.

He eventually saw out his career with two seasons at Sampdoria before retiring in 1996.
