Inter’s Uruguayan international midfielder was very pleased after having made his first appearance for the Nerazzurri this season when coming on in the second half in the 2-1 win away against Torino.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Inter TV the former Fiorentina man was visibly relieved to be back on the pitch after having underwent surgery following a long rehab process which kept his sidelined until now.

“I feel good, for the win but above all for the fact that I am back on the pitch. It has really been a long time since last time. I wanted to do everything to once again feel what you can only feel when you’re on the pitch.”

Vecino continued by explaining how difficult these last few months have been from a mental point of view but underlined how happy and grateful he was over finally once more being fit enough to play.

“It wasn’t [easy], to undergo two operations and to be far away from the pitch for such a long time is never easy. But luckily I am now 100% fit to give a hand to this team that is really doing well in this final stage of the season.

“Today, was a match where we suffered a bit more in comparison to the other matches. However, matches like these are the most important ones if you want to win the league.

“Maybe these past few years we were not able to bring home the points. This is the difference between those win and those who come in second.”

In conclusion Vecino was asked how he would feel about once again scoring a decisive goal for the Nerazzurri, referring to the Uruguayan midfielder’s ability to always come in clutch for Inter in tight moments.

“Maybe, it wouldn’t be too bad [smiles]. I put myself at the disposal of the team from the moment I returned.

“I know that we have a lot of player in midfield but it is important to be ready when the coach calls on you because we are fighting to win something important and everyone has to give their contribution.

Matias Vecino signed for Inter in the summer of 2017 from Fiorentina in a deal worth reportedly €24 million and has since then featured 97 times across all competitions scoring 11 goals in the process.
