The true star of this Inter team is not a player but coach Antonio Conte, at least in the eyes of Beppe Bergomi.

Conte is little over a year and a half into his tenure in charge of the Nerazzurri and has without doubt transformed the Milanese club, who he now has sitting at the top of the Serie A table after 27 games played.

Thanks to yesterday’s win over Torino coupled with second-placed AC Milan’s loss to Napoli, Inter are now nine points clear at the top of the table.

Speaking on Sky Sport Italia during Sky Calcio Club last night, Bergomi said: “I will keep saying that Conte is the real added value of this team.

“If we go and look at Inter’s squad, nobody has won trophies apart from Arturo Vidal.

“At Juventus, meanwhile, the team has been winning things for nine years.”

Inter had to wait until the 86th minute to secure victory at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino after a very stubborn defensive rear-guard from the Granata.

“It was a difficult game because Inter always struggle against these teams who sit deep,” Bergomi explained.

“They are games in which you need some unpredictability, Inter are a different team with and without Romelu Lukaku.

“Lautaro Martinez made a beautiful movement for his goal, and Alexis Sanchez’s cross was brilliant too.”

Bergomi also returned to a discussion point Conte raised two weeks ago, regarding Inter’s disappointing exit from the UEFA Champions League before Christmas.

“Today’s Inter would certainly have fared differently in their Champions League group than how they did in the autumn,” the 1982 FIFA World Cup-winning defender argued.
