Inter Confirm Danilo D’Ambrosio Tests Positive For COVID-19

Danilo D’Ambrosio has tested positive for COVID-19, Inter have confirmed today.

The defender missed Sunday’s match away at Torino after falling unwell in the build-up on Sunday, at which point he was given a club car to return to Milan.

D’Ambrosio took a test yesterday and Inter’s fears have been realised, with a positive result emerging.

Inter confirmed in a statement that the 32-year-old was already in quarantine at home and that the rest of the team would now follow Serie A’s health protocols.

COVID-19 has made its way back into the Inter squad after several months without a positive test.

D’Ambrosio is not the first club employee to contract the virus in 2021, however, with club directors Beppe Marotta, Alessandro Antonello and Piero Ausilio all testing positive last month.

Antonio Conte now faces an anxious wait to discover whether any other players have caught the virus from D’Ambrosio, who has not started for Inter since the 4-2 win over Torino on November 22.

Inter host Sassuolo in their next Serie A fixture on Saturday and it remains to be seen whether how many other players, if any, will be unavailable for the game at San Siro.
