Inter’s fans are finally being rewarded for staying patient with Christian Eriksen, a report in the Italian media argued today.
Eriksen has become a key figure in the Nerazzurri’s midfield since avoiding a departure in January, proving his worth again as a substitute during Sunday’s 2-1 win at Torino.
Tuttosport’s print edition said every team needed an exciting creative player before it can consider itself complete, and the Dane has finally stepped up to the task.
“Inter supporters have waited for their forlorn star,” the Turin-based paper wrote.
“Eriksen had won everyone over with his good manners and that vaguely indecipherable facial expression.
“There were lots of small things which made him likeable; spending last year’s lockdown on his own at Appiano Gentile, playing Lego as a hobby like a true Dane; and the advice Romelu Lukaku gave him to learn Italian so he could settle in better.
“Inter’s fans have forgiven Eriksen a few meek performances as they waited for the spark to arrive, and now it’s happened.”
Eriksen has made 24 appearances across all competitions this season, with his only goal of the campaign so far coming against AC Milan in January’s Coppa Italia quarter-final.
He played a key role in securing victory at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino last weekend though, helping set up the penalty which allowed Lukaku to open the scoring.
The 29-year-old seemed destined to return to the Premier League in January but he has turned his Inter career upside down since then.
