There are three players in the running to stand in as Inter captain against Sassuolo while Samir Handanovic is out due to COVID-19, according to an Italian media report tonight.

As per Passione Inter, last year it was Marcelo Brozovic who took the captain’s armband when Handanovic was out due to a hand injury.

But Milan Skriniar and Nicolo Barella could both also potentially wear the armband in this weekend’s Serie A clash at home to Roberto De Zerbi’s side.

Skriniar has already previously worn the armband in Handanovic’s absence, while Barella is widely expected to be the future captain of the club once Handanovic either leaves the club or retires.

The report goes on to add that former Udinese player Handanovic, who was confirmed as COVID-19 positive a short while ago by Inter, will be replaced in goal by Ionut Radu, who will make his first senior start for the Nerazzurri club.

Ironically, Radu has only ever made one first-team appearance for Inter before and that also came against Sassuolo back in May 2016.
