Inter are under fire from ‘dishonest’ pundits and journalists who want to diminish their fantastic season in Serie A, a report in the Italian media argued today.

The Nerazzurri are nine points clear of second-placed AC Milan with 11 games to spare, having put together an eight-match winning run since the end of January.

But as FcInter1908.it have pointed out, many in Italy’s media are trying to dismiss Antonio Conte’s work by saying Inter are only in this position because they went out of Europe before Christmas.

“Don’t let yourselves be fooled by false myths,” the report said.

“Believing these people would be to not give the team and its coach sufficient credit for finding the right formula as they pursue a dream Inter have chased for 11 years.”

Since finishing bottom of their UEFA Champions League group in December, Inter have played 21 games in all competitions, with 17 in Serie A and four in the Coppa Italia.

AC Milan have played 22 during the same period, only one more than their city rivals, while Juventus have played three more with 24.

As FCIN1908 said, it would be churlish to say the least to suggest that Inter have only broken clear of both teams because they’ve played one and three more games respectively.

The report dismissed the Nerazzurri’s detractors as ‘perhaps dishonest’ people who were trying to spread ‘fake news’.

“Three games have never made the difference over the course of a full season,” they argued.

“People are trying to blur the reality of things and help out opponents who have deep squads and big-name players.”

It was also suggested that Inter shouldn’t be expected to win the Scudetto automatically anyway, given that Juventus invested ‘more than €200 million’ on the likes of Federico Chiesa, Alvaro Morata, Arthur and Dejan Kulusevski last summer.
