Marco Tardelli is more than happy to tempt fate when it comes to Inter’s chances of winning Serie A this season.

The Nerazzurri are sitting nine points clear at the top of the standings after 27 games played with 11 games to spare.

Inter are in a very good position to bring home a first league title since the 2009-10 season and Tardelli, who won five Serie A titles during his time with Juventus prior to joining Inter in 1985, cannot foresee any last-minute twists in the tale.

“Inter are the great favourites,” Tardelli explained in an interview with Italian daily newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

“The Serie A title is theirs to lose, but they won’t lose it.”

The 1982 FIFA World Cup winner also spoke on whether other competitions have been decisive in determining the Serie A standings this season.

“How decisive have the European cups been? A lot.

“This is an atypical, very hard season.

“In fact, games are being played every three days.

“Sometimes not only the physical energy is lacking but also the ability to concentrate.”

Tardelli played for Inter between 1985 and 1987 and made 71 appearances across all competitions for the club, in which he scored eight goals.

He also had an unsuccessful stint as the Nerazzurri’s head coach during the 2000-01 season.
