Antonio Conte cannot understand why critics still accuse him of playing ‘catenaccio’ football, according to an Italian media report today.

As per Gazzetta dello Sport’s print edition, the Inter boss is angered by accusations his style of play is defensive, not least because the Nerazzurri boast Serie A’s best attack this season, having scored 65 goals.

Conte cannot understand where this idea has come from seeing as in four of his last six seasons as a coach he has won league titles, while in one of the other two he finished in second place (with Inter last season).

He currently has Inter sitting at the top of Serie A with a nine-point advantage over second-placed AC Milan and appears closer and closer to winning yet another league title.

Conte has been in charge of Inter for nearly two years now and has won 55 of his 90 games in charge.

Inter will look to consolidate their healthy lead at the top of the table when they welcome Sassuolo to San Siro on Saturday.
