Antonio Conte Has Seven Key Inter Players ‘At Risk Of COVID-19’ For Sassuolo, Italian Media Claim

Inter coach Antonio Conte is worried he will lose more key players ahead of Saturday’s match against Sassuolo, according to an Italian media report today.

A few first-choice Nerazzurri players already contracted the virus earlier this season, but there are seven players who did not: Stefan de Vrij, Achraf Hakimi, Nicolo Barella, Christian Eriksen, Ivan Perisic, Lautaro Martinez and Romelu Lukaku.

Corriere dello Sport’s print edition reported that COVID-19 could pose a risk to Inter’s Serie A title chase if they end up missing out on several players.

Danilo D’Ambrosio and Samir Handanovic have tested positive so far this week but there is no guarantee there won’t be more positive cases when Inter discover their latest round of testing results today.

Earlier on in the season, there was a point where Inter had to do without six players and they perhaps unsurprisingly lost the Milan derby as a result of all the absences.

The report goes on to point out that the upcoming international break comes at a good time for Inter, because any positive players should be able to recover in time for football resuming at club level at the beginning of next month.
