Inter are fearful of a COVID-19 outbreak at the club after two players tested positive this week, according to an Italian media report today.
Danilo D’Ambrosio was first to test positive on Tuesday but Samir Handanovic was also confirmed to have contracted the virus yesterday, ruling out both from Saturday’s match against Sassuolo.
As per Gazzetta dello Sport’s print edition, all Inter’s other players have been subject to further testing and the results will be discovered today.
Given that this particular variant of COVID-19 at Inter is thought to require a shorter incubation period, it should not take long before the club know exactly how many players have caught the virus.
Inter’s players have been in fiduciary isolation since Tuesday and they will remain under those restrictions for 14 days.
The Nerazzurri’s molecular tests on Tuesday gave negative results for everyone, Handanovic included, but the Slovenian did not feel perfectly well and therefore sat out yesterday afternoon’s training session.
Handanovic underwent another test at that point and on this occasion he returned a positive result.
The 36-year-old is the 11th player at Inter to contract COVID-19 this season, with the Milan-based paper pointing out that this was a good response to anyone who thought Antonio Conte’s side had been ‘lucky’ in any sense.
As far as club directors are concerned, Beppe Marotta remains the only positive case with sporting director Piero Ausilio having tested negative again yesterday.
