Sebastiano Esposito has revealed he hopes to get another chance at Inter after his loan spell with Venezia comes to an end this summer.

Esposito had a mini first-team breakthrough last season and scored his first senior goal during a 4-0 win at home to Genoa in December 2019.

The Italy under-21 international was given the chance to take a penalty by Romelu Lukaku at San Siro, as he recalled on Thursday.

“I asked Lukaku if I could take it,” Esposito told Sky Sport Italia.

“Because I was the one who took penalties for Inter’s Primavera, I instinctively went over to pick up the ball and then I found him in front of me…

“Lukaku thought about it, he heard the stadium scream my name, and then he threw a ‘missile’ into my hands and let me take it.

“Today, however, I would be ten times more afraid to do the same thing.

“From there, the pressure started and my performance levels dropped.

“The road started to climb.

“This year has helped me to grow up and make me understand that not everything is easy in football.

“I was good at taking advantage of my opportunities, in others I could have done more but now I have to go on.

“Anyway, I hope to get back to Inter.”

Esposito was asked to name a player he viewed as a reference point in his young career, selecting one of his former Inter teammates.

“Danilo D’Ambrosio, who I already knew because my father coached him at Juve Stabia,” he revealed.

“He took me in as his younger brother, I always have to thank him.”

Next, Esposito spoke on growing up in the Nerazzurri’s academy.

“I played in a youth sector that few attend and many dream of,” he said.

“At Inter it’s a whole other thing, I was playing international tournaments at the age of 10.”

The 18-year-old then went on to discuss how quickly the judgement can change on young players and how it makes things difficult.

“One day they make you feel like a phenomenon, then the next they make it out like you don’t even know how to dribble,” Esposito added.

“You need to have out of the ordinary mental strength, a normal person would not be able to move forward mentally.”

Between his loan spells with SPAL and Venezia in Serie B this season, Esposito has made 25 appearances across all competitions, in which he has scored two goals and provided three assists.

In 15 senior appearances for Inter, Esposito, who is under contract until 2025, has scored one goal, the aforementioned penalty against Genoa.
