Inter may not need to play any matches at all with COVID-19 absences, as explained by a report in the Italian media this afternoon.
Danilo D’Ambrosio, Samir Handanovic, Stefan de Vrij and Matias Vecino have all tested positive for the virus this week and this forced Milan’s local health authority today to suspend all first-team activities at Inter until Monday.
As a result of the suspension, Saturday’s Serie A fixture at home to Sassuolo has been postponed and with the international break coming up after that, all four players could potentially return before Inter’s next match at Bologna on April 3.
Gazzetta dello Sport‘s online edition explained that COVID-19 positive players must isolate for 10 days, after which they can return to training as long as they return a negative test.
D’Ambrosio, Handanovic, De Vrij and Vecino are quarantining at home and will hope to be available for the trip to the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara in two weeks.
Inter have now had a total of 13 first-team players test positive for COVID-19 since the start of the season with others to have tested positive in the past including Milan Skriniar, Alessandro Bastoni and Marcelo Brozovic.
Gazzetta’s reported also confirmed 7 April was the most likely date for Inter’s rearranged game against Sassuolo.
