Marseille coach Jorge Sampaoli has contacted Inter’s Arturo Vidal over a potential move to the Ligue 1 club, according to a Chilean media report.

As per La Tercera, Sampaoli got in touch with Vidal because he wants him to lead Marseille to UEFA Champions League qualification and potentially league title contention.

Sampaoli and Vidal know each other well with Sampaoli having previously served as Chilean national team coach.

Vidal played a big part in Sampaoli’s 2014 World Cup team and the 2015 Copa America winning team.

Vidal is under contract with Inter until the end of next season and has recently lost his place in the team to a revitalised Christian Eriksen.

The report goes on to add that the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich midfielder has not performed as expected by Antonio Conte, who really really wanted him brought to the club last summer.

Vidal has two goals and two assists in 30 appearances for Inter this season, but he is set to be out for another three weeks after undergoing knee surgery last week.
