Inter back-up goalkeeper Andrei Radu will play for the first time in over a year this weekend, an Italian media report has highlighted.
With Samir Handanovic to miss the match at home to Sassuolo due to testing positive for COVID-19, Radu will be the player that replaces him in goal, according to Gazzetta dello Sport’s print edition.
Radu last played a competitive match back on January 9 2020 when he was at Genoa, with that match coming in the Coppa Italia.
His last Serie A appearance dates back to December 2019, which ironically was a 4-0 defeat against Inter at San Siro.
There is ultimately no time for Radu to get himself ready for this game, he quite simply has to be ready immediately to fill in for Handanovic, who has been ever-present in the team this season up until now.
Romanian shot-stopper Radu has made a single first-team appearance for Inter with that appearance dating back to 2016, and that match was coincidentally also against Sassuolo.
