Romelu Lukaku is a completely unstoppable player for Inter in Serie A, according to the Nerazzurri’s former boss Alberto Zaccheroni.

The Belgian has been in fabulous form again for Antonio Conte’s side this season, scoring 25 goals in 34 appearances across all competitions.

He was named in Roberto Martinez’s Belgium squad for next week’s FIFA World Cup qualifiers today, but Inter’s COVID-19 restrictions mean Lukaku will almost certainly not be able to go.

Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport today, Zaccheroni said of the 27-year-old: “Lukaku has become Inter’s positive thought.

“The Nerazzurri had patience but now they know Lukaku is capable of winning them every game eventually.

“He has an exceptional physique but also a complete set of technique.

“There is no defender in Serie A who is capable of stopping Lukaku.”

Zaccheroni was asked whether he felt Lukaku and Cristiano Ronaldo really will be the key men as Inter and Juventus fight for the Serie A title.

“They’re two players I’d like to see play together!” he admitted.

“They’re the top: Ronaldo has an extraordinary conversion rate.

“The Scudetto will depend on them.

“Inter have the advantage that Lautaro Martinez can score when you least expect it: he isn’t very consistent but he has an eye for goal like few others.

“Juventus have an extraordinary player in Ronaldo but they’re ‘missing’ Alvaro Morata.”

Inter have seen tomorrow’s fixture at home to Sassuolo postponed after four players – Danilo D’Ambrosio, Samir Handanovic, Stefan de Vrij and Matias Vecino – tested positive for COVID-19 this week.

Asked if he expected the outbreak to hamper the Nerazzurri’s bid for the Scudetto, Zaccheroni assured: “I don’t think Inter will drop their guard, it’s improbable not least because of the coach they have.

“Football can surprise you though.

“The COVID-19 cases will cost Inter something, although with the squad and the hunger they have I don’t think they’ll be significantly damaged.”
