Inter’s owners Suning have never given up on the club’s new stadium project, according to an Italian media report today.

Yesterday, Milan mayor Giuseppe Sala claimed that the uncertainty surrounding Inter’s ownership meant things were at a standstill and this led to the Zhang family, who own Suning, responding with a furious statement on Inter’s official club website.

Gazzetta dello Sport state that Suning wish to keep hold of Inter and that Steven Zhang will be back in Milan next month for the first time in several months.

In the midst of negotiations with parties regarding fresh investment into the club, the report insists that the Chinese businessman has never given up on the new stadium project, which is being done in collaboration with AC Milan.

The project appeared set to start with the clubs only needing the go-ahead from the council before going on to phase two, which was selecting the winning project.

Now it seems things have slowed down significantly, and yesterday’s tension is unlikely to help matters either.

Inter’s statement described Sala’s comments about their uncertainty at corporate level as ‘disrespectful’, ‘offensive’ and ‘irrelevant’.
