Inter’s rapid COVID-19 outbreak suggests the Nerazzurri’s players have contracted one of the virus’ more contagious variants, according to an Italian media report today.

As per La Repubblica’s print edition, Milan’s local health authority doctors are worried about possible contagion with Inter having had four players test positive for COVID-19 in recent days.

Considering the whole squad and coaches, there is a group of about 40 people at Inter, hence the local health authority’s decision to suspend football activity at the club until Sunday, including the postponement of tomorrow’s Serie A fixture against Sassuolo.

Players and coaches are not allowed to leave Milan until March 31 and at the moment it is unclear whether the team will be able to make a return to training from Monday or not.

The doctors are analysing the positive test results of Danilo D’Ambrosio, Samir Handanovic, Stefan de Vrij and Matias Vecino to determine whether they have contracted more aggressive variants of the virus, such as the English variant.
