Inter have been joined in the race to land out of contract Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum by Barcelona.

The Netherlands international has not signed an extension to the contract he penned upon joining the Premier League champions from Newcastle United in 2016, with his deal set to expire this summer.

As reported in today’s newspaper edition of Spanish newspaper AS, Barcelona have identified Wijnaldum as a cost-effective transfer target and coach Ronald Koeman is keen to unite with his compatriot.

Inter have also shown an interest in the 30-year-old and are believed to be ready to battle the Blaugrana for his signature, as they begin planning for next season.

Former Feyenoord and PSV midfielder Wijnaldum has enjoyed a successful spell with Liverpool, helping the Merseyside club to a first Premier League crown for 30 years last season and lifting the Champions League in 2019.

However, discussions to renew his contract at Anfield have so far proved fruitless and he is edging closer to leaving the club.
