After being ordered to remain in Milan until the end of the month following a COVID-19 outbreak, Inter’s international players are determined to join their national teams.
The Nerazzurri reported four cases of the coronavirus amongst players last week, leading to the postponement of tonight’s Serie A match against Sassuolo and a period of isolation for players.
Following Danilo D’Ambrosio’s positive test, Samir Handanovic, Stefan De Vrij and Matias Vecino all contracted the virus, but only a member of staff has since tested positive.
As reported in today’s newspaper edition of Il Giornale, no new positive cases amongst players since Thursday has led to a number of internationals being eager to meet up with their compatriots, with a feeling that the risk of infection within the group is now low.
However, players who do depart would contravene rulings by the local health authority and could face the risk of being fined or banned.
Whilst Inter are refusing to publicly comment on the matter, it is believed coach Antonio Conte and senior management favour players remaining in Milan to avoid fatigue, injuries and potentially contracting the virus.
It also affords Conte additional time with his players to prepare for Inter’s Scudetto run-in that was not initially expected to be available.
