Inter players and staff are facing the possibility of being forced to isolate until the start of April after an outbreak of COVID-19 within the squad.
The Nerazzurri saw tonight’s Serie A match against Sassuolo postponed after Danilo D’Ambrosio, Samir Handanovic, Stefan De Vrij and Matias Vecino testing positive through the week. A ruling by the local health authority (ASL) has seen the Inter group go into a period of isolation as they battle to control the outbreak.
As reported in today’s newspaper edition of Corriere della Sera, Inter face a mandatory isolation period until 1 April and after a member of staff tested positive on Saturday, there is a fear that they will be forced to complete this entire period.
However, should there be no new positive cases before Monday, the ASL could be prompted to reassess their ruling and allow Antonio Conte’s side to reconvene before the end of the month.
Inter’s players have also been blocked from travelling to meet up with their compatriots during the upcoming international period, despite being called up.
Meanwhile, the period of isolation and rearrangement of the Sassuolo clash could lead to a build up of fixtures early next month, with Inter potentially having little time to prepare for games against Bologna, the Neroverdi and Cagliari on 3, 7 and 11 April respectively.
