Following his recovery from COVID-19, Inter CEO Beppe Marotta will look to finalise contract negotiations with striker Lautaro Martinez.

Marotta contracted the coronavirus in late February and after displaying severe symptoms was hospitalised on 11 March at the Istituto Clinico Humanitas, though was released yesterday after showing promising signs of recovery.

As reported in today’s newspaper edition of Tuttosport, Marotta’s first piece of business upon returning home is to reignite renewal talks with Martinez, with an agreement thought to have been close prior to his hospitalisation.

A deal had been struck with the Argentina international’s agent Beto Yaque on a contract running until 2024 at €4.5 million per season, plus bonuses, whilst Martinez’s €111m release clause is also set to be removed.

Yaque had met with fellow directors Piero Ausilio and Javier Zanetti in Milan last week, but were waiting on the return of Marotta in order to sign off on the new contract.
