Leandro Paredes has lifted the lid on his decision to reject Inter and remain at Paris Saint-Germain in January.

Inter were linked with a move for the former Roma midfielder towards the beginning of the transfer window when they were expected to part company with Christian Eriksen.

Paredes was not a regular starter in Paris before the arrival of Mauricio Pochettino as head coach, but he insisted today that it was not a difficult decision to stay put.

Speaking to French broadcaster TF1 during ‘Telefoot’, as quoted by FcInterNews.it, the 26-year-old said: “I feel very good at this club (PSG).

“I’m aware of our potential.

“What convinced me to stay was the faith I had from the management and from my teammates.

“They called me to persuade me to stay and this comforted me in my decision.”

Inter will be equally relieved the deal for Paredes did not go through given that Eriksen has enjoyed a remarkable upturn in form since the start of last month.

Antonio Conte has moved the Dane into a deeper midfield position and has got Eriksen playing alongside Marcelo Brozovic in a highly effective double-playmaker arrangement.

Paredes has made 26 appearances in all competitions for PSG this season, providing three assists.
