Inter have reached defensive perfection with their trio of Milan Skriniar, Stefan de Vrij and Alessandro Bastoni, according to Nicolas Burdisso.

Antonio Conte’s side are on an eight-game winning run in Serie A and much of their success can be put down to the Nerazzurri’s incredible solidity at the back.

Burdisso was part of Inter’s last rock-solid back-line in the days of Roberto Mancini and Jose Mourinho, and the former centre-back was full of praise for his successors.

He told Gazzetta dello Sport on Monday: “Skriniar, De Vrij and Bastoni are a perfect trio, because they complete each other.

“Alessandro is improving constantly and the others are modern players.

“I’ll focus on Milan: he’s had some strange moments, let’s say moments of confusion, but he’s always been a champion and he’s got back to demonstrating that recently.”

Asked if Inter’s current defence was superior to Burdisso’s Serie A title-winning side in the late 2000s, he responded: “There was unbelievable competition in that team.

“We were spitting blood in training to earn our spot in the side.

“Ivan Cordoba, Marco Materazzi, Walter Samuel, Cristian Chivu, Sinisa Mihajlovic… unlike back then, the pecking order at Inter is clear today.”

Burdisso also discussed Inter’s long-term prospects under Conte during his interview, arguing the Nerazzurri were on the verge of opening ‘a winning cycle’.

The Argentine, who spent six years at Inter between 2003 and 2009, also drew a comparison between Conte and Jose Mourinho for their ability to manage dressing rooms during difficult moments.

Inter will return to action at Bologna on April 3 after the conclusion of the international break.
