Inter are only missing one thing in order to become a competitive force in Europe, at least according to a leading Italian journalist.
Antonio Conte’s side suffered a dismal group stage exit in the UEFA Champions League this season, knocking themselves out of Europe altogether after finishing bottom behind Real Madrid, Borussia Monchengladbach and Shakhtar Donetsk.
Inter have since put their campaign back together and are six points clear of AC Milan in Serie A after an eight-match winning run in the league.
Asked on TMW Radio what the Nerazzurri needed to make progress in Europe, Mario Sconcerti said: “First and foremost, we need to see how Inter’s ownership situation is resolved.
“After that, they should find a back-up striker for Romelu Lukaku, someone who can step in with the same quality with which Alexis Sanchez replaces Lautaro Martinez.
“They wouldn’t need anything else then, if not perhaps a younger version of Arturo Vidal.”
Conte’s side will be back in action on April 3 when they visit Bologna for matchday 28 of Serie A.
Inter will be hoping their four players who tested positive for COVID-19 last week – Danilo D’Ambrosio, Samir Handanovic, Stefan de Vrij and Matias Vecino – recover in time for the trip to the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara.
