Aleksandar Kolarov is destined to be released by Inter at the end of this season, according to a report in the Italian media.

The Serbian joined on a €1.5 million deal from Roma last summer but has made just 11 appearances for the Nerazzurri in all competitions.

Gazzetta.it said Kolarov’s age (he turns 36 in November) and his heavy annual salary (€3 million) were both factors playing against him regarding a future at Inter.

The defender’s contract expires in the summer and it appears Inter have no intention of extending it.

Kolarov has failed to score for Antonio Conte’s side and provided just one assist, which came in a 2-2 draw against Parma last October.

Alessandro Bastoni’s exceptional form at left centre-back was said to be one of the reasons Kolarov had failed in Milan, forcing him to spend much of the season on the bench.

The comparison between the two players hardly even exists, the Milan-based publication argued, such is the difference between Bastoni and Kolarov’s performances.
