Inter have a goalkeeper they can trust for future years in Andrei Radu, according to his former Genoa coach Aurelio Andreazzoli.

Radu spent 18 months playing for the Rossoblu between 2018 and 2020, making 52 appearances in all competitions.

Andreazzoli spent four months coaching the Romanian and discussed his experiences of working with Radu in an interview for today’s print edition of Tuttosport.

“If I chose him to play in Serie A with me there will have been a reason,” he explained.

“I was convinced Radu could improve a lot with me, considering the way I interpret football.

“He’s a quality person who loves his job and is willing to sacrifice himself to achieve results.

“Radu follows those who help him develop, and at Inter he has a goalkeeping coach in Adriano Buonaiuti who’s a master.

“All the ingredients are there for him to have matured over the years and gained the qualities he already demonstrated at Genoa.”

Radu is being tipped by some of his former teammates and bosses to potentially replace Samir Handanovic in Inter’s goal.

Andreazzoli put the brakes on when asked if this was possible, explaining: “You don’t become a great keeper just by getting the ‘licence’, you have to assimilate the demands of your role.

“All the conditions are there though: Radu has a goalkeeper alongside him who’s already one of the best, that Samir Handanovic that I knew at Udinese.

“Samir was determined and I always liked his persona.

“He is one of the best midfielders in Italy – and pay attention, because I said ‘midfielders’ on purpose.

“I’ve had lots of players who were good with their feet but didn’t understand anything about the play, or who didn’t have the confidence to use them.

“It’s not only a question of technique, you also need the balls to follow what’s happening and do what you need to do in the box, which isn’t the same as when you’re in other areas of the pitch.”

Radu has yet to make a single appearance for Inter since re-joining the club last summer, having spent the second half of the 2019-20 season at Parma.

His only experience playing for the Nerazzurri’s first-team came way back on the final day of the 2015-16 campaign, when Roberto Mancini brought the 23-year-old on as a second-half substitute during a defeat at Sassuolo.
