Stefano Sensi retains the backing of Antonio Conte at Inter despite the midfielder’s never-ending injury problems, according to a report in the Italian media today.

Sensi made his first start for club or country since September on Sunday, playing 68 minutes as Italy defeated Bulgaria 2-0 in a FIFA World Cup qualifying match.

Tuttosport’s print edition said Conte’s belief in the 25-year-old ‘remained intact’ and that the Inter boss hoped to have Sensi available for the Nerazzurri’s Serie A title run-in.

Sensi remains an important figure in Inter’s midfield, the Turin-based paper explained, not least because he can play in three different positions (play-maker, mezzala and no. 10) when he is fit.

The former Sassuolo player also has a talent for shooting from distance and is intelligent in a tactical sense, two qualities which could make him useful for Conte in the final two months of the season.

Sensi has made 13 appearances for Inter during the 2020-21 campaign, totalling just 329 minutes on the pitch.
